View from Casa Seton II, ca. 1981
Watercolor, 32" x 44"
This Casa Seton interior depicts a partial mirror on the back of a door, and within its reflection a bathroom shower and open window. There is no human figure in the bathroom, as if a transition moment between bathers in other paintings. Out the window is a partial (circus?) menagerie: elephant, monkey, frog, baboon, ibis and instead of a plane in the sky, a flying fish. A floating pin-up girl and dog hover in the bathroom tile near the shower-head and seem to anticipate the water. An overhead light fixture with collaged beads suggests insects drawn to the illumination. Signed in the window frame "Bart J. Morse."
This image is taken from a Bart Morse slide and the writing is not completely legible. The date is most likely 1981, 2 or 3. The title written on the artwork front is "View from Casa Seton" but the slide shows a typed label "Casa Seton II." There are also conflicting dimensions on slides and their duplicates, perhaps the difference between artwork dims and frame dims or Morse guessing the dims after the fact.
